Miami Executive Airport opened in 1968 and replaced the older Tamiami Airport which was forced to close due to the encroaching growth of surrounding communities. In 2001, the Wings Over Miami museum was established at the airport. The museum contains a wide array of vintage aircraft and is open Wednesday-Sunday 1000-1700. Approximately 16 million dollars has been invested in infrastructure upgrades at Miami Executive Airport since 1995. The Miami-Dade County Commission renamed the airport from Kendall-Tamiami Executive Airport to Miami Executive Airport in 2014.
International Flight Center has a large presence at Miami Executive Airport with a large number of executive hangars and a private terminal with multiple passenger lobbies, two conference rooms and a pilot lounge. International Flight Center can provide hangar space for most transient aircraft.
Reliance Aviation has operated at Miami Executive Airport for over 40 years and their facility includes a recently renovated private jet passenger terminal with a spacious passenger lobby and entertainment room. Reliance Aviation operates a hangar facility that can accommodate most aircraft.
